Humane Society of the Ozarks promotes the humane & ethical treatment of all animals through education and advocacy.
The Humane Society of the Ozarks (HSO) has been serving the people and animals of Northwest Arkansas.
Our Outreach Program provides financial assistance to individuals who would otherwise be unable to provide veterinary care for their pets in emergency situations.
Our cruelty investigations & removal of animals from abusive, neglectful & hoarding situations allows us to rescue animals who have been subjected to horrific conditions, provide them with the necessary veterinary care & rehabilitate them physically, socially & emotionally with the sole goal of having them move into safe, secure & loving forever homes.
We have many programs that support the animals & families living in NWA:
Street Vet Clinics for the Unhoused
Adoption & Rehoming Assistance
Low Cost Spay or Neuter Voucher Program
Low Cost Emergency Vet Care Assistance Program
Helping Keep Pets with Senior Citizens
NWA Shelter Support Program
NWA Shelter & Rescue Alliance Program
Compassionate Farewell Program

Since 2019, we have provided over 7,628 spay/neuter vouchers, making affordable veterinary care accessible to families of all income levels. By reducing financial barriers, we’re helping to prevent unwanted litters and support responsible pet ownership in our community!
In 2024 we worked with another group on a mass spay/neuter day for the public and altered over 80 animals at no charge.

Since 2012, we have found loving homes for over 1,127 animals, transferred more than 246 to trusted rescue partners across the U.S., and maintained a save rate average of 98.5%. In total, we have taken in over 1,405 animals since 2012
In 2024, HSO introduced this compassionate program to help families in need say goodbye to their pets with dignity and peace. So far, we have covered the cost for over 40 families.
This program was initially launched in 2022 as an annual event. After hosting it twice in 2022 and 2023, we recognized the overwhelming need and expanded it to a monthly initiative. Since then, we have provided over 1,500 services—including vaccines, medical care, and preventatives—while also assisting with over 100 free spay/neuters.
HSO covers the cost for cats to be spayed/neutered, ear-tipped, and vaccinated for rabies through the Washington County Animal Shelter. Since 2023, we have funded the alteration of 206 cats.
